I haven’t read as much as I had hoped and have fallen a little bit behind in the reading challenge goal I set for myself this year. I hope to get back on track with that very soon. Anyways, here is a snapshot of what I’ve read, been reading, and plan to read next.
What I’ve Read
Over the past month I have managed to finish a couple of books. I had hoped to finish three or more, but what can you do? First, I finally finished Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town. I had some difficulty getting through this one, though it wasn’t a testament to the quality of the writing or storytelling. It is a collection of short stories not a novel, and I didn’t know this until I started reading it. As always, once I start reading something I feel compelled to finish it, but this fact may have had an impact on my enjoyment of the book and my motivation in finishing it as I am much more used to the fleshed out story of a chunky novel.
I finished The Girl Who Played with Fire rather quickly in comparison to other books I have read recently. It is definitely much more fast-paced than The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It doesn’t take half the novel for the story to really pick up. It does so right from page one, so this one really got me into reading it right away. I find Lisbeth Salander to be a very compelling character with a really interesting back story and she keeps me reading and wanting to know more about her.
Yes, months later I am still reading this one. It stays by my bedside and as I have already read it once, I am in no real hurry to finish it again. It is there because I like to read a few pages while in bed or in the bath, and I like it because no matter where I am or how long it’s been since I picked it up, I know where I am in the story and don’t get lost. This time around I think it will continue to serve this purpose.
In this one, book three of the Millenium Trilogy, Lisbeth continues to be the interesting character I met in book one and got to know better in book two. The Girl who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest picked up right where book two left off and didn’t skip a beat. I admit, I am just blowing through this one like nobody’s business. I am already half finished!
I have a few books lying around the ol’ apartment that are just itching to be read. It’s hard to say what I will be reading next, but I will definitely be writing about it in future posts. I think I will be tackling some more of the Earth’s Children series which I have been reading off and on for several years. I will also continue on with more A Song of Ice and Fire once I am finished with A Game of Thrones… Beyond that though, it could be anyone’s guess what will come next…
